OUR history

There is established an indigenous corporate spiritual church to be known as “the East Africa Pentecostal Churches calvary” built and established upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the cornerstone of the Church (Ephesians 2:20). And since we as a church believe in the verbal and plenary inspiration of the holy scriptures and that they are the final authority of faith and morals, each member of the said Church shall take as his rule of conduct the Bible know as the Old and New Testaments which includes sixty six (66) books and shall diligently study the Bible and adhere to its teachings inwardly and as well as outwardly in his daily walk and conversation (II Timothy 3:16-17, Romans 15:4).

We therefore identify ourselves as a corporate body of Pentecostals and also with those of the precious faith whose purpose is to make disciples, Plant churches, reach the unreached with the Gospel and prepare them for the second coming of our Lord JESUS CHRIST.

FROM OUR ROOTS:

E.A.P.C Calvary Abundant life worship Centre as it’s known today was started in 1965.That time of the year they used to meet as a fellowship meeting at Mpuri (gwa samson m’Itunga) Posho mill shop.

The mother church founded on 10th March 1961 used to meet at GAKOROMONE in a rented room known as (gwa kibwaa) There were other members coming from different areas eg, Makutano Runogone chugu Thimangiri Nkabune Ntugi and several other areas.

The founder Missionary Arnt Walter Olsen and his Wife Karly Olsen together with other Kenyan Preachers had started the church at Jomvu Mombasa on 10th June 1953

In 1965 The pioneers decided to start a fellowship to reduce the Pressure of travelling for fellowship to Gakoromone after the morning Sunday service which was a long distance for them as they came from different areas as: Ngurumo, Mpuri, Kirugua, Nthimbiri etc.

Consequenly, God touched one of them.Mr. Samson m’Itunga and the same year, He willingly and freely accepted to give one room of his Posho mill to be used a s a church at Kanondone-Mpuri market. Other members who used to meet together with them at Gakoromone were more than willing to support them in the way they could. They gave calvary Pioneers a table few chairs which were used in the small room where they held meetings.

They stayed in this place for a short time under the pastorship of Moses Muketha God increased them both spiritually and numerically as they increased, they sensed the leading of the lord to Impact the society. The Same Mr. samson M’Itunga decided to Donate land for them to build a church after they were given the plot, they tirelessly and in unison put up a temporary single structure of mud, posts and rails which was Grass-Thatched. Despite the transience of the structure, they celebrated God and put forth the Gospel. They stayed in the structure until 1967 when they moved to the current site. Over all that time they were under Rev.Samuel Nderitu who was an overseer and Pastor of Meru Town church where other fellowships used to meet for Sunday services from other areas.

They applied for land allocation where calvary church stands today to the then URBAN COUNCIL and with the help of councilor Daniel Kagoji as the area Councilor and Mr. Naaman M’Mwirichia as area chief. The council approved the allocation of the plot which used to be a clan land used for rearing community chicken Project. The delegation which approached the council for the approval of the plot included the late Mr. Gerald M’mukndia elder and members Mr. Robert M’Itwaruchiu and Daudi M’Itwathuku. It did not last for a long time before letter of allotted was brought to them by the late Gedion M’Mukiira who was the chairman Kirugua land affairs.

Later there was need to put up astructure for worship after the successful completion of the acquisition of the plot. Because of the financial constraints they were not able to put up a strong structure but they they adapted a temporary  mud, Grass and poles like the one they were using at Mr. samson M’itunga plot. They used off-cut timber to make seats, which seemed comfortable to them. All those materials (off-cuts timbers, grass for thatching and posts) came from the members. With Very low income thy had great enthusiasm and zeal for God. Their unity of each other and above all understanding of their Vision they possessed they had to fulfill their God given vision. They stayed in this mud church until opened an account with Meru central co-operative society where they contributed and donated their coffee harvest Kilos to the factory Which number they had Acquired after planting a few coffee trees soon after they arrived from Mpuri kanodone which translated to cash when coffee was sold. Under the Chairmanship of the late Mr. Francis maitima.

To set them strolling, they decided to put fixed number of contributions from each member. The first proposal was put up by a Notable member i.e. Mr. Naaman M’mwrichia which was Kshs.100 and the members agreed on the same. Plus, the members contribution of their coffee produces which converted into money they started to buy materials like stone, sand, Ballast, cement to construct a permanent church in a time record of one year1977 they completed a permanent church which was 60 ft by 30ft.Which was used for over 25 years.

Come the year 2002 the leadership decided to modernize the church which was now small in size compared with members who had grown in numbers the project took 10 years to complete and on 28th July 2013 Dedication ceremony of our new sanctuary was done by Rev.Doc.E.M. shell founder and senior Pastor of Christ Chapel, Florence, Alabama U.S.A.

On the year 2015 Calvary church celebrated 50 years of God’s Faithfulness, Goodness and Abundance.
